| RI Shooting Qualification | ||||||
|
To obtain a Rhode Island CCW non resdient applicants must hold a pistol permit from another state and are legally mandated to pass the shooting qualification set forth by the RI Attorney General. The shooting qualification consists of firing a total of 30 consecutive rounds with a semi-auto pistol or a revolver, at 25 Yards, at an Army L Target. You will need a minimum score of 195 points to pass (65%). This shooting qualification is limited to 30 minutes. Shooters may use any handgun of their choice, of any action, non-magnifying sights, and caliber. However, whichever caliber the shooter qualifies with, that is the largest caliber they can carry with their RI license. So, if you qualify with a .22 pistol, you can only carry .22 caliber handguns. But if you qualify with a .45 pistol, you can carry that and everything below (.40, .357 magnum, .38spl, 9mm, .380, .22lr, etc.). A RI CCW is good for 4 years and costs $40. As a non resident we recommend applying through Cranston, Foster or East Greenwich police departments. This qualification is pass or fail, any student that fails to qualify will have one additional attempt to qualify on the same day and time. If unable to qualify on either attempt students must reschedule (if desired) at an addition charge. We currently offer two different qualification options. Option 1 is for shooters who are ready to shoot the qualification, bring your application and your own gun and ammunition (at least 30 rounds to qualify, bring extra if you need to "warm up" prior to shooting the qualification). We will supply the Army L target, administer the shooting qualification, score your target, and sign and notarize your application, and supply you with the required documentation you need to submit with your application. Fee for option 1 is $75. Option 2 is for shooters who are ready to shoot the qualification but do not have their own gun (or a larger caliber gun) to use, bring your application and we will supply you with a .45 caliber pistol (your choice of either a 1911 or a Sig P227) and a total of 50 rounds of ammunition (20 rounds to practice and then 30 to shoot the qualification, if additional ammunitions is needed for a 2nd attempt there will be an additional charge). We will supply the Army L target, administer the shooting qualification, score your target, and sign and notarize your application, and supply you with the required documentation you need to submit with your application. Fee for option 2 is $125. |
